Festivals & Events in Montana

Each region and town of Montana has its own unique appeal.  And like other cities all across America, the residents delight in sharing their individuality with others. One of the best ways to experience Montana is by attending the assortment of festivals and events held each year.

The Whitefish Winter Carnival
Held in February, this is a great way to learn about the mythology of Whitefish. Events include a parade and carnival as well as an assortment of arts, crafts, games and food.

National Ski-Jording Finals
Each March, Red Lodge hosts the unique sport of ski-jording in which a horse pulls a skier through and oval speed course. Come cheer along your favorites!

Montana Dinosaur Festival
This is a family friendly street fair where you will learn about Montana’s oldest residents. The festival is held in Malta during the month of June.

Custer Last Stand Reenactment
Lovers of Indian history will want to plan to attend this event held in Hardin during the month of June. Reenactors representing both sides of the battle perform four times, so you are sure to have time to see at least one of them. Also, you can talk to others onsite about camp life.

Bitterroot Valley Bluegrass Festival
Held in Hamilton during the month of July, you will hear bluegrass musicians from across Montana as well as from around the country. The festival offers Instrument workshops, and a special gospel set on Sunday.

Bannack Days
Held each July in Bannack, here you can get a feel for life on the frontier. See gunslingers, taste traditional foods, learn about the mining towns and more.

Annual Lewis & Clark Festival
Each year during July, the people of Montana celebrate the lives and explorations of Lewis & Clark. You can see demonstrations, exhibits and other events in cities throughout Russell County.

The SummerFest along the Yellowstone
Livingston, MO is the site of this great July event. Enjoy a 3 day celebration at the Sacajawea Park where you will find music, games, kid’s activities, rides, food, and much more.

Annual Wing Ding
Hosted in July in Billings by the Gold Wing Riders Association, this is the world’s largest gathering of Honda Gold Wing motorcycle owners.

MontanaFair
Billings is also the site of this August activity. Enjoy rides, rodeos, races, games, and much more at Montana’s largest annual fair event.

The Rocky Boy’s Annual Pow Wow
In August, visit this cultural event and learn about the Indian heritage and traditions. Activities and attractions include costume and drumming contest, dances, traditional foods and cultural demonstrations.

Annual Trout Creek Huckleberry Festival
Held each year during August- From pancake breakfasts and huckleberry dessert contest, games, arts, crafts and more come visit Montana’s Huckleberry Capital.

Fall Wagon Train
Ever wonder what life must have been like as families loaded up their possessions to trek off to parts unknown? If so, then head to Jordan, MO during the last week of August to experience travel via wagon train. You will enjoy sleeping under the stars, cooking over a campfire, campfire songs, stories and make memories to last a life time.

Cowboy Poetry & Music Rendezvous
Held in Dillon during the month of September, this is a fun way to learn about the life of a cowboy through music and prose.
